Run substrate install-skill after every binary upgrade to keep the agent skill in sync with the tools your binary actually exposes. The command copies the skill packaged inside the binary into ~/.claude/skills/substrate and stamps it with the binary’s version. That stamp matters: an installed skill describing tools or conventions the binary no longer supports is worse than no skill at all, because the agent follows instructions that quietly fail.

Report drift and exit non-zero without writing anything. Exits 0 only when the installed stamp matches this binary’s version and the content matches. Exits non-zero when the skill is missing, or when either the stamp or content differs. This is the CI form, and it is what substrate diagnose reports on.

Idempotent

Re-running install-skill against a current install is a no-op that reports “already current”. Run it after every binary upgrade — see Upgrading.
Add substrate install-skill to your post-install or post-upgrade script so agents always have an accurate skill without a manual step.
